essay topics

For my essay I wanted to write about my identity, who I am and how I became to be the person I am today. I will write about the history of my family. How we started in North Carolina and remained here. I will go through the good and low points of my life, (the important ones that shaped my identity.) There will be a climax in my essay of an important experience that made me who I am.

Ain't I a Woman?

Ain't I a Woman? Sojourner Truth argues men and women should be equal. As you read her speech you see even all women are not treated equally to each other. She says men talk about how women should be presented in the best, as in carried over mud holes and helped into carriages. Truth doesn't get carried over mud or lifted into carriages. What makes her different from the other women, ain't I a woman?, she says. Why can we not all be equal? A man says Christ was a man, that is why we are not equal. "Christ" might have been a man, but to receive a man from birth, a woman and man must come together. 2 equals make one.

Everyone on this planet should be able equal one another. Race, gender, personality, etc. Who has the right to say "I am above you." No one. This problem dates back from way back when, and today, after 161 years after this speech it is still a problem in our society.

Identity

From the moment we are born we are established as a boy or girl. If your a girl you would come home all dressed in pink, in your nursery, everything pink. As you become older all of your toys are girly. Presents will be of make-up, barbies, jewelry, etc. Does anyone even get to choose how they want to grow up? 95%, if not more will answer no. This is your gender identity, live with it.
A couple months back I heard about a story of parents who refused to release the gender of their child to anyone. "We've decided not to share Storm's sex for now -- a tribute to freedom of choice in place of limitation, a stand up to what the world could become in Storm's lifetime (a more progressive place?..)" they stated. The parents got a lot of backlash because of this. I personally think it is a great idea, it let's the child grow up without feeling any pressure from the world. If he is a boy, now he doesn't have to stand up and be the "strong man" or put into any category.
